A key objective of our Foundation since its inception back in 2009 has been to interact with communication specialists including journalists and bloggers. The purpose has been to encourage accurate media reporting of subjects relevant to food, nutrition and health. We have hosted a series of workshops, typically running for 2 days, during which media representatives from Türkiye have had an opportunity to learn about specific subjects of current interest. Interactive sessions with scientific experts both from Türkiye and the international community, have ensured that participants develop their relevant knowledge. They have also been tutored in explaining often complex subjects in such a way that the public can readily understand them. A key theme throughout has been to enable participants to understand and communicate the difference between sound science and anecdote.
We have been most encouraged by the genuine desire of media colleagues in Türkiye to become better equipped to provide accurate and understandable input to consumers at large. The series of workshops was suspended during the COVID pandemic. We look forward to re-establishing this important initiative.
