Chaired by Prof. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil, the Symposium was hosted by the Harvard Sabri Ülker Center for Metabolic Research. A main theme of the symposium was to review the latest research into our understanding of the molecular basis of metabolic diseases and how this knowledge can be applied in the treatment and prevention of metabolic diseases. Symposium speakers included Roger Kornberg, who discovered the nucleosome as the basic unit of the DNA helix in chromosomes and won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work.
